Third of all burglaries are due to open windows and doors say police
The summer period is arriving and with it the warm weather we have all been looking forward to. Unfortunately the police will also see an increase in homes being burgled as a result of sneak-in burglars entering through open windows and doors.
Between July and September in the last three years around a third of all dwelling burglaries were as a result of properties being left insecure. The force is committed to tackling burglary with activity on-going to prevent and detect crime, but without the public taking action to stop preventable crimes; sneak-in burglaries will continue to occur. Most police forces are running a Summer Burglary Campaign trying to remind homeowners to review their security over the next three months. Rhino Shutters fully support this.

Keep them locked out, be secure
“I think people are more security conscious than ever, but they still leave doors and windows unlocked or open. This is a simple thing that would help to put a burglar off or otherwise it’s easy for us and you’re done, dusted and gone before they realise.” – convicted burglar
Everything else is so ugly
Recently, I was talking to one of our agents who install security products. He was telling me how much he loves Rhino Shutters because they are the only ‘attractive’ solution for windows and doors that he offers. Compared to burglar bars and grilles this is so true!

New: Product Development leads to improved ‘daisy’ wheels
Rhino Shutters use a three-part locking system – the daisy wheel, lock catch, and a keyed lock cylinder. The daisy wheel is purposely made of plastic as this is inherently weaker than the steel lock. Therefore any vandalism will only be able to damage and remove the daisy wheel which is easily replaced. We have recently improved the daisy wheel to make it easier to turn.
Rhino Shutters are ideal for bedrooms as they make your window secure. Leave your window ajar in the safe knowledge that no thief is going to get in. Neither will the shutters bang nor flap in the breeze – often a problem with blackout roller blinds. Like all plantation shutters Rhino’s do not provide a total blackout solution but they do allow you to filter the light and keep the room ventilated. In this room I would dress the window with some full length curtains with blackout lining for when I want total darkness to lie-in.

Some of our customers are less worried about human intruders than animals! They like to leave their doors open in the summer but are concerned about foxes, cats or even deer entering their homes. Rhino Shutters have been installed in front of French and patio doors to allow them to even go to bed leaving doors open knowing that nobody can just wander in.
The most vulnerable window?
Burglars are usually opportunists – the lure of an open window giving easy access to a property can result in you losing personal items of value (both financial and emotional). Bathroom windows are often left open for ventilation and are easy to overlook when securing your home. Rhino Shutters provide both practical security whilst looking great in a bathroom. As they are made from powder-coated aluminium and surgical-grade stainless steel they are ideal for damp environments.

Once the shutter is locked the key should be removed to a safe place. The window can be opened and closed by reaching through the open louvres, and there is the added benefit of privacy whilst you are making your ablutions!
